Based on the reviews here and my own experience, this part was poorly designed or designed to break. I took apart the mechanism to see why it broke. The rotating mechanism used to allow the bar to go up and down is held together by a tiny plastic bar that is perhaps a millimeter thick and a small and thin washer located in the center of the bar. With regular toddler use, the washer bent, and broke through and cracked the plastic bar. This was poorly designed and replacements should be provided free of charge.
